³ Jephthah fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob. Jephthah gathered some worthless fellows around himself, and they went out with him.

⁴ After some time, the Ammonites made war against Israel. ⁵ When the Ammonites fought against Israel, the elders of Israel went to bring back Jephthah from the land of Tob.
